How We Calculate These Numbers

Our eco impact calculations are based on industry data comparing the environmental cost of manufacturing a new IBC tote versus recycling or reconditioning an existing one. Here are the factors behind each metric:

30 lbs Plastic / Tote

A standard 275-gallon HDPE bottle weighs approximately 30 lbs. When we recondition or recycle a tote, that plastic is kept in the circular economy instead of being produced from virgin petroleum-based resin.

500 Gallons Water / Tote

Manufacturing a new HDPE bottle requires approximately 500 gallons of water for cooling, cleaning, and processing. Reconditioning uses a fraction of that amount (typically 20-30 gallons).

15 lbs CO2 / Tote

The carbon footprint of producing a new HDPE IBC bottle includes raw material extraction, transportation, polymerization, blow molding, and shipping. Reconditioning avoids nearly all of these emissions.

42 kWh Energy / Tote

Blow-molding a new HDPE bottle from resin pellets requires significant energy for heating, forming, and cooling. Reconditioning requires only the energy for washing and inspection.
